“I believe in being an innovator.” ~ Walt Disney
Grace & Salome: I Have To Tell You Something
Episode Eight: The Princess and The Cake
In this episode Grace and I explore some new Disney park technologies from personalized princesses to interactive cakes.
There is no 12-Step program for being a recovering Disney girl.
My relationship with Disney, in general is complicated. As an adult, I hold them largely responsible for the state of corporate blackmail that is current US copyright law. I abhor many of their practices and I know first hand from friends what a hostile environment their workplaces can be. All those realities never seem able to negate the way I feel when I think back on time spent desperately clutching E-tickets or watching wide-eyed as Briar Rose wandered barefoot and sang to forest critters in Mary Costa’s lilting soprano. I also have mad respect for the technology and innovation that has always been at the core of everything Imagineer-y.
In this episode, Grace lets me babble in recovering Disney girl glee about the new park technologies that allow little girls to have physical proof that they are all princesses as well as Glow with the Show LED light-up Mickey ears…which I need desperately.
Episode Note: If you are in California and you get your hands on Glow With the Show ears you will GET ME A PAIR, too. These aren’t the droids you’re looking for.
Series Note: Several years ago, Grace suggested we do a podcast together. I made a website and everything. Then we both realized we didn’t have the time and we both hated the sounds of our speaking voices. But the idea seems like fun now, so this new feature will be mirrored both here on SalomeSays and on Grace’s Phasing Grace blog (although mine will likely be posted earlier because Grace has a grown up job). We’re shooting for one each Tuesday on lighthearted but geek-crucial topics. We are also shooting for 2-5 minute podcasts, but are happy when it just stays under ten. I am working with a therapist to learn to not yap like a purse dog and take a breath so Grace can have a turn to speak. There may need to be some sort of electroshock involved.
