I was just reading a fascinating piece about this in Dawkins new book, ‘Greatest Show on Earth’; about how programmers have learned to recreate similar behavior by implementation of complicated local rule sets for each individual ‘bird’, which then builds up into these seemingly pre-choreagraphed dances.
Fascinating stuff.
